The village of Abjat-sur-Bandiat was listed in the top 20 villages in France by the Telegraph in 2023 and has a fantastic boulangerie, a creperie, an excellent restaurant (5 mins drive out of the village), a bar and a tiny tourist office. There are wonderful markets held every day in different villages close by, we especially recommend the one in Piegut on Wednesday mornings, Piegut also has a supermarket (5km).
The Dordogne is well known for many superb chateaux - Hautfort, Puygelhem, Bourdeilles and Rochefoucauld (Picture 1) being among the best examples. The prehistoric caves in Villars are spectacular and well worth a visit.
Brantome (2) is a wonderful town encircled by the River Dronne (great for canoeing) with a fascinating Abbey.
Also worth exploring are the numerous ancient churches for example Abbaye de Boschaud and Saint Jean du Côle as well as following in the footsteps of Richard the Lionheart by visiting the castles at Chalus and Beynac.
We are surrounded by spectacular scenery to explore by foot, mountain bike, canoe or horse. Delightful lakes for wild swimming & fishing, golf courses for all levels, a great go-cart track and treetop adventure parks, all within easy driving distance.
We can recommend visiting the spectacular gardens at Marqueyssac on the river Dordogne for a day trip and good lunch nearby.
We are spoilt for wonderful restaurants, bistros and vineyards to experience the region's gastronomy. We are also very happy to make further suggestions.
